August 2016

August 2016: Let’s go back to the last picture I can find on my phone that has skin I actually like.

So. It’s only five and half years since this picture was taken, and it feels like forever ago.

Forever.

It is just a selfie, taken on my phone, in natural light coming from the side (taken near my front door which has a full glass pane).

I had lost some weight, and I think it notices in my forehead. My hair was still holding colour – it’s too grey now, and box colour looks so brassy – you can see that starting in the front, here – but I’d love to go back to this chestnut which suits my skintone. I do love my white stripes now, but for quite a while I was just letting the colour grow out. A depressing time, I have to say, but it didn’t last for ever.

But the thing I love most, is that I don’t have much in the way of pores on my chin, nor do I have much rosacea showing on my cheeks or forehead.

However. I am wearing makeup and that will blur a lot of imperfections. But, ultimately, this is the look I want my bare skin to get to. It isn’t glowing, gorgeous Korean glass-skin. Even I am not so delusional to think I can ever get to this.

These are the things I want to improve:

I want to lose weight and hopefully lose the heavy lumps of fat over my eyebrows.
I want to hydrate my skin again, lose the dullness I have and regain that smooth glow.
I want to re-establish my skin barrier.
I want to drink more and help to hydrate my skin from the inside.
I want to exfoliate more and lose the corky patches near my nose, also hope to shrink the appearance of pores on my central T zone.
I want to improve my rosacea areas, round my upper cheeks and forehead calm the redness and stop the pustules from reappearing.
I want – though this may be a hope too far – to improve the sagging skin under my eyes.
I want to find ways to alleviate my dry eyes and stop the redness and inflammation on my eyelids.
I want to find ways to improve my thyroid levels and get some eyebrows.

I think that might have to do for now…

Next time, make sure to have a bracing drink in your hand, as we’ll be looking at the bare face of a 67 year old.
No makeup, no filters.

  1. I’d like to do most of the things on your list too, so your journey is going to be very interesting. Ten out of ten for bravery in publishing photographs of yourself.
